Meet the Director Jana Whitlock Heyl has been teaching in Charles County for the past 19 years. In addition to directing/producing all of the Mainstage shows, Mrs Heyl also teaches Advanced Acting, Play Productions, and Multi-media here at McDonough High School. She loves directing musicals and fast-paced physical comedies. Some of her favorite shows that she has directed are Les Miserables, Noises Off, and Beauty and the Beast. An Ohio native, Mrs Heyl has a BA in Theatre and English. She also has a Master's Degree in Education. She lives in Charles County with her husband, 2 children and 2 cats. About the Program The McDonough High School Theatre Department produces two full length plays every year. The fall production is a straight play (non-musical) and in the spring a musical production is performed. Before each production auditions are held to fill the acting and technical positions. Students who are active in theatre can become members of the school’s International Thespian Troupe which produces one act plays each year. Recent plays the theatre department has done include Grease, Beauty and the Beast, You Can’t Take It With You, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Zombie Prom, and High School Musical. In addition to these productions, drama club also does face painting at the Charles County Fair, produces a yearly Talent Show, takes an annual trip to New York City, and takes students to the International Thespian Festival in Lincoln, Nebraska.
